Every week students have the opportunity to work independently on 6-8 centers. These centers are created around our weekly phonics, spelling, high frequency word, writing and science or Social Studies curriculum and directly relate to what we are learning each and every day. Center time is a time for kids to work independently and modify and differentiate their own learning and work at their own pace.
Today we went to the Aspen Middle School to do a fun art project with the Art Teacher Rae Lampe. We made art paper called "Paste Papers" that we will later use to make collage art. It was so much fun and such a great experience! Hands were messy and we all helped to clean up! Thanks to our helpers!
Miss Jill took us outside to do some nature writing this week. We are working on poems for each month. So we went outside and observed and listened to nature so that we could really write an amazing Fall poem for the month of September! The kids did an amazing job and really wrote some fantastic poems. We also made a word web to help us solidify our ideas!
Our new reading program Making Meaning is so amazing. We get to read and talk about books at such a deep level. So far we have read 4 books together. We have been learning how to talk about books with our reading partners. Each month we get new partners who we will work with throughout the whole month it is really a great way to build relationships. Also we have reading journals and we are sharing our own books that we read with our friends. We are building some wonderful comprehension strategies!
