This week Ms. Julie continued in our classroom with some yucky gooey science. We started with putting chicken bones in three different liquids, water, coke and vinegar. WE are going to check on them next week and see what happens to the bones after sitting in the liquids for a week...YUCK! Then she came and did a whole group experiment with her carved pumpkin. We dumped a bunch... of baking soda in it. Then poured some vinegar in...guess what happened! Check out the video below...Finally we made slime! So fun! Thanks Ms. Julie!!!
We created some really amazing Pumpkin Art, using science. First, we drew a pumpkin using the website "Art Hub" were we follow step by step directions. Then we made 2 solutions, Baking soda and water, which we painted all over our pumpkins. Then we made a solution of citric acid, water and food coloring. When you paint the citric acid on top of the baking soda...an amazing chemical reaction occurs and makes a cook affect on our art work!
We have been working hard on our small moment stories. Small, "zoomed" in piece of writing all about us, our adventures and our families! The kids are getting so good at adding details, having a beginning, middle and end. Using great spelling strategies, and bringing their stories to life! We sometimes even work with a partner to help us with our ideas! Such a peaceful time in the classroom!
This week Julie Wille started her rotation in our classroom. Over the next 2 weeks she will be coming in working with small groups and doing some fun science! This week she came in and started our apple rotting experiement...As well as continuing our study of sink and float, by making foil boats and see how many pennies our creations could hold! The lab sheets will come home in Friday Folders!
